Discusses the oral-formulaic theme of the "beasts of battle" (see Magoun 1955b) in a fifteenth-century written poem by Lydgate, The Life of Saint Alban and Saint Amphibal. There exists no counterpart for the scene in the Latin source, but it is very close to the OE theme.
